Fire Safety Adviser Fire Safety Training
|
A Fire Safety Adviser is a person who holds a building fire safety qualification for an approved fire safety course, issued within the last three years. A Fire Safety Adviser is required to be appointed to a high occupancy/high risk building as part of the Building Fire Safety Regulations 2008 that was mandated by the Queensland Government in 2008.
A Fire Safety Advisor can provide: 1. General evacuation instructions 2. Fire response evacuation instructions thereafter 3. Evacuation coordination instructions 4. Coordination of evacuation procedures practice 5. Review of evacuation plans and procedures 6. Advice on Fire Safety Installation maintenance 7. Building Fire Safety Audits. Research shows that 30 years ago, you had about 17 minutes to escape a house fire. Today it's down to 3 to 4 minutes. The reason: Newer homes and the furniture inside them actually burn faster. This is also relevant in your workplace and office environment." |
If you are an owner, or a business or a person, that is occupying or managing a building in Queensland, you have a legal obligation to ensure the safety of any person in that building in the event of a fire or other emergency.
Fire training for employees as per the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990 and Building Fire Safety Regulations 2008 must include: 1. Basic evacuation instructions (also known as general fire evacuation instructions). This training must occur as soon as practicable, but no later then 2 days after a person starts work in the building and at intervals of no more than 1 year thereafter. 2. Intermediate evacuation instructions (also known as first response evacuation instructions). This training must occur no later than 1 month after the person starts working in the building and at intervals therafter of not more than 2 years. This instruction includes the method of operation of manual fire alarms (if installed) and fire fighting equipment in the building. 3. Evacuation coordination instructions (also known as evacuation coordination procedures). This training must occur at least once every 12 months. |
